Suave Groundhog Farm was established in 2003 when we purchased our first flock of day old chicks. (Who knew that chicks came in the mail!) The dairy goats soon followed and hogs were added as a 4-H project the following year. Toby bought his first real tractor at a farm auction from our good neighbor Marg Snyder and with the close supervision and guidance from our farm mentor Emmert Moler, we planted and harvested our first crop of alfalfa hay in 2007.
The dairy goats take center stage with our Grade A creamery established in 2012. It is here we craft the goat cheeses and yogurts that are sold locally at farmers’ markets, served in local restaurants or bought directly from the farm in our “mini store”. We yearly showed the goats at the Leetown ADGA affiliated show until the show was discontinued, and participate in linear appraisal when possible. these have proven to be tremendous tools in improving our herd. We also benefit from participation in the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture’s ongoing conference, educational workshops and field days. Since 2015 Suzanne has been attending an annual Cheese makers Resource Conference in New Holland Pennsylvania and has greatly benefiting from the instruction training and networking this gathering provides. The Conference has not been held the last few years, and is sadly missed.
We sell show quality purebred French Alpine dairy does for milk production and breeding, and buck kids for breeding, meat, brush control or companion animals. Check out our Herd and “for sale” pages.
